The Size of Wales

It's nice to see the size of Wales continue to be used as an international standard of measurement:

China is planning to create the world's biggest mega city by merging nine cities to create a metropolis twice the size of Wales with a population of 42 million

The Telegraph, 25 January 2011

It may have 14 times our population, but what if we had a fourteenth of the investment mentioned in the article? That would work out at £13.5bn. In terms of rail investment alone we would get two brand new rail lines, with a total of 221 miles of new track and a maximum travel time of one hour between the existing city centres.

If we want to be world class, this is the sort of infrastructure investment we need to keep up with.

Not offensive, but tedious. If you want to raise one subject over and over again you will have to find somewhere else to do it.

It is not one subject, it is one solution. One that is relevant to a number of the subjects you discuss including this one where you offer no solution at all.

Clearly you prefer complexity over simplicity. Where, after all, would you and your ilk be without the endless schemes and initiatives that I suspect keep you from productive employment?

You would also, it would seem, prefer inefficiency over efficiency. Inefficiencies without which, again, you would have to contribute more substantially to our economic surplus.

I will leave your blog to it, as you desire, sad in the knowledge that I have failed to divert it from being another pointless talking shop, a public sector consultant's wet dream, into a force for real, science and fact based, reform of the forces and systems that are reducing us to an age of debt peonage.

Remember that I have discussed LVT with you at length before, Siorsyn, and that you posted another lengthy comment about it on Monday. I didn't respond to it because it thought it was more a diatribe than an attempt to engage in or stimulate discussion, but I was content to let it stand in case others wanted to.

But I am not content to see you raise exactly the same subject again and again in what I consider a petulant attempt to get attention for your cause when people choose not to respond to you. I'm sure your beliefs are sincere, but take your temper somewhere else.
