More than a thousand

I'm now back after taking a few weeks off to enjoy the end of winter, and looking forward to getting my teeth into blogging again with renewed vigour.

While I was away, Syniadau reached a new milestone. I have now posted more than a thousand articles since the first one in April 2009, with the post on 18 February being the thousanth. That's something I'd like to celebrate with everybody who reads this blog.

     

In terms of popularity, the number of people who read Syniadau keeps increasing. These are the latest StatCounter graphs for weekly and monthly page loads, unique visitors and return visitors. The full details are on this page.

  

  

The figures are based on cookies, and different computers will have different cookie settings. A visitor who looks in several times a day will probably register that number of visits, provided they are more than an hour apart. But those who subscribe by email or by RSS feed will not register at all. So my best guess is that Syniadau has now reached the milestone of more than a thousand regular daily readers, and maybe another thousand who visit a few times a week.

To put things into perspective, we still have quite some way to go before reaching these dizzying heights, but at least the trend is in the right direction.

Thank you for another good year

The picture is one of strong and steady growth, so I need to say a big thank you to everyone who reads this blog ... and especially to those of you who take the time and trouble to write comments and engage in discussion afterwards.

With referendums in both Scotland and Catalunya, 2014 promises to be a significant year for those of us who want to see stateless nations gain their independence. We need to watch and learn, for it will be our time soon.

Broken Links

Sadly one of the file servers I have used extensively for hosting videos, pdfs, spreadsheets and the like has gone the way of many free things on the internet, and this means that a number of links in older posts will now be dead. Please accept my apologies for this.

But all is not lost. I'm glad to say that everything has been transferred to other servers, however it will take some time to work through all the affected posts and update them, and there'll probably be some that I'll miss. So if anyone does come across a broken link, would you please let me know about it by leaving a comment here.

The same applies to broken links to other sites. I've usually managed to keep copies of the external web pages and externally hosted documents I've linked to, so I'll be able to put these copies up on one of my servers and link to them instead.

More than a million

I don't often draw attention to the number of hits Syniadau receives, although there is a link to my StatCounter statistics at the bottom of the column on the right which I try to update every month or so.

However I've just reached a milestone that I'd like to celebrate with everybody who has taken an interest in this blog over the years. Syniadau has now had more than a million page loads since it started in April 2009.

Having reached seven figures, I looked back at what I said when my visitor count reached six figures, and can only repeat what I said then, though with even more gratitude than before:

I hope Syniadau has been able to stimulate our thinking about what sort of country Wales can and should be, for it is entirely in our hands to make our country what we want it to be.

Into Five Figures

According to Statcounter, Syniadau had over 10,000 unique visitors for the first time last month, thanks mainly to a large surge during the week of the referendum.

That doesn't mean that there over 10,000 of you reading this, though I wish it did. I probably have a few hundred who visit every day, a few hundred who visit once or twice a week, and a few hundred others. I'm very grateful to each and every one of you.

Full details are on this page. I guess the challenge now is to continue the upward trend into April. Is anything big happening on the Welsh political scene over the next few weeks?
